WWII Fighter Pilot

Don McPherson, 93, is one of two surviving fighter aces in Nebraska and a member of the Nebraska Aviation Hall of Fame. While assigned to the carrier USS Essex near the end of World War II, he shot down five aircraft, including three in one day during the Battle of Okinawa. He also flew the last mission of the war, a combat air patrol over the USS Missouri during the surrender ceremony of Sept. 2, 1945.
